BAHIA DESIGN DISTRICT
The masterplan with Fera Investimentos for Bahia Design District reformulates Rua Chile as the center of urban and cultural life in Salvador. The plan for Bahia Design District is formed by a series of careful and precise architectural interventions in and around Rua Chile. With Cinearte, Fera Palace Hotel, Fera Lofts, Palacete, Palazzo Sodré, Delicatessen, and Barreiro studios, Rua Chile will once again become the center of urban life in Salvador.
LOFTS
The Lofts building is a sliver of openness in the dense fabric of Rua Chile. With no facades, the space is a deep and narrow void, free of structure, framed by two lateral concrete walls, connecting Rua Chile to Bahia de Todos os Santos.
On one side, the busy Rua Chile; and on the other side, an amazing view of the Bahia de Todos os Santos. The building features twelve apartments, each with a unique design, each designed to maintain the depth, void and openness. The apartments are designed with maximum free space, compressing all utilities in undulating walls.
Both facades are designed to face their opposite contexts. To the street, a veil screens the rooms and provides directional views. The veil is a low tech solution of flat hammered metal tubes that induce movements, creating ever changing expressions and glimpses. Towards the ocean, large triangular terraces protrude from the building in altering directions.
