The Butterfly

The project is one of two proposals for a narrow infill site, a void left behind by a former railway track, now a local park set on top of a parking garage with few if any qualities.

The building closes the gap to the busy street, thereby creating a protected neighbourhood park at its rear. A multipurpose hall, for sports- and culture-events, makes the functional transition from a busy city street with a café and bar to a neighbourhood park prepared for a variety of activities.

The building is formed by a central core with cantilevering floors to emphasize the continuation of the street façades and the enclosure of the park, but on the same time making light, airy and interesting spaces between the new building and its neighbours.

The trusses supporting the cantilevered floors creates a horizontal layering of the façades which pick up both materiality and heights form the surrounding area.

The plans are developed to be flexible and can accommodate either high end offices or flats.
