The Barreiro Building is a beautiful and unique structure in the Historic Center of Salvador. Our project intends to recover and transform the building that today stands in degradation after years without use. The transformation will include offices for co-working, shared meeting spaces and a store on the ground floor.
The project proposes a new addition on the top floor, not compromising the reading of the existing building and enhancing its useful space. To this end, the new volume is offsetted from the façades, differentiating itself from the existing construction, while at the same time providing terraces overlooking the ocean. The existing roof will be removed and the attic renovated. We intend to interfere as little as possible in the building, and for that we will keep existing stairs and elevators untouched. One of the main tasks for the project is to improve the building’s technical capabilities according to current standards, adapting it to new demands and fire safety while at the same time carefully restoring it to former glory.
