Fera Palace Hotel

The Palace hotel is an iconic building in the center of Salvador. Located on Rua Chile, Brazil’s first planned street, the hotel was completed in 1934 with an architecture inspired by the Flatiron building in New York and the Art Deco movement. In order to begin working with this project, extensive research was conducted into the history of Bahia, with its unique cultural, musical, architectural and artistic traditions. Resulting in a 300 page book, this work helped define the use of materials, colors and ornamentations for the project.

The building has undergone a complete renovation, where 84 hotel suites have been refurbished, all the original windows restored, and a new roof top pool inserted. The foundations have been replaced and new technical installations hidden within the exciting structure. Furthermore, the project is not only restoring and recreating, but also adding a new chapter to the unique cultural history that is represented by Salvador’s architecture, and society as a whole. A great building should breathe, evolve and adapt, and the project for Fera Palace tries to facilitate just that by opening it up to public use and access. Spaces like the Fera Restaurant, Fera Ballroom and Fera Lounge have been opened up to include the city life and once more make the Palace hotel a destination at Rua Chile.
