The Civil Aviation Authority
The project is the result of an architectural competition held in 2008 as a result of Parliament’s decision to move the CAA to Bodø.
The building terraces from a larger base that fills the plot towards a narrower top. The shape reflects the ever-changing perspective in the mountain landscape. Furthermore the form reflects important sight lines from the lake and the landscape behind, ensuring daylight into the street Sjøgata. Since the building’s main volume is facing the sea, the access is pulled out to Sjøgata to connect with the city and give the CAA visibility in the city. Between the CAA and NAV, a low building is inserted stitching the two buildings together.
The building is built on a basement car park with shared access with parking for the NAV-building. The basement has space for 40 cars, as well as bicycle parking.
Plan 1 containsspacesforarchives, deliveries, technical roomsand operation.
Plan 2is the building’saccesslevel, containing concierge, meeting roomsand canteenwith kitchen.
Plan 3-8 contains office spaces. The plans are developed according to a standard principle: Offices are situated along the facade, and service functions and the social rooms located in the building’s inner zone. This creates recognition between floors, and simplifies the orientation in the building.
The building’s design provides plans with different geometry upwards in the building. This variation is utilized to provide social rooms of different qualities on each floor thereby creating distinct and individual identities.
Plan 8 contains, in addition to office space, the director’s office, and the more formal meeting rooms.
The Civil Aviation Authority was nominated for the State Building Prize in 2012.
