St. Sunniva School Yard

The starting point was a schoolyard divided into two levels, separated by a fence, which also lacked separated zones for relaxed conversations and physical activity. At the same time, the upgrade was to be completed within a tight budget and with the preservation and integration of historical elements.

The project connects the upper and lower levels with a staircase that provides seating opportunities for students in school time and also serves as an amphitheater for various school events. The steps integrate the historic stone wall and emphasize its corner post and weathervane.

More protected zones for conversation were built along new plant beds around existing trees, bounded by benches and the relocated wrought iron fence.

The table tennis area is separated by steps set into the asphalt, and table tennis has become a very attractive activity during breaks.
