NTNU – More Park, More City!

NTNU is facing a tremendous transformation. With the relocation of Dragvoll University, the new NTNU will gain a new central place in the city. This is a unique opportunity to define and redefine a development strategy that will leave its mark on Trondheim for years to come. With an expansion around green areas and the formation of a common park, the Campus Park, a new common identity is made for a future city integrated NTNU: The Park as a meeting point for interaction between teachers, students and the people of Trondheim.

The Gløshaugen Plateau and the Elgeseter Street are two strong and equally monumental structures. Significant for reading both the university and the main thoroughfare from the south is the green area enclosing Gløshaugen, staging, connecting and defining the city and the plateau.

The proposal reverses previous unsuccessful expansion, and focuses on a university integrated in the city structure of Elgeseter. The Campus Park expands  today’s reading of the city, becoming a city park, opening and creating connections, integrating and gathering new and existing building masses close to one of the city´s largest recreation areas. Elgeseter is completed and expanded as an area with attractive streetscapes, built on today’s city and block structure.

The project is making use of plots which today have very few qualities, avoiding protected areas and areas with foundation issues, strengthening functional clustering and redistributing and connecting green areas. The Dragvoll Campus, the Innovation Centre and the Art, Architecture and Music school are each located in close proximity to related buildings and environments.

Our project creates a unifying Campus Park and a completely city integrated campus, the expansion of the campus is happening in the city, on Elgeseter. Urban spaces are initiated and developed, while the park is liberated and strengthened. More park and More City!
