NTNU – More Park, More City!

NTNU is undergoing a significant transformation with the relocation of Dragvoll University, positioning the new NTNU as a central hub in the city. This presents a unique opportunity to establish a development strategy that will shape Trondheim for years to come. By expanding around green spaces and creating the Campus Park, a shared park, a fresh collective identity is forged for a future city-integrated NTNU. The Park becomes a focal point for interaction among teachers, students, and the Trondheim community.

The Gløshaugen Plateau and Elgeseter Street stand out as two robust and equally monumental structures. The green area enveloping them takes a crucial role in defining their boundaries, influencing the perception of both the university and the main thoroughfare from the south.

The proposal diverges from past unsuccessful expansion efforts, concentrating on integrating the university into the city structure of Elgeseter. The Campus Park extends beyond the current city layout, transforming into a city park that opens up connections and integrates new and existing buildings close to one of the city’s largest recreational areas. Elgeseter is enhanced as an area with attractive streetscapes, building upon the existing city and block structure.

The project optimizes plots with few current qualities, avoiding protected areas and those with foundation issues. It reinforces functional clustering, redistributes and connects green areas, and strategically positions the Dragvoll Campus, the Innovation Centre, and the Art, Architecture, and Music school in close proximity to related buildings and environments.

Our project envisions a cohesive Campus Park and a fully integrated city campus, expanding within the city on Elgeseter. Urban spaces are initiated and developed, simultaneously liberating and reinforcing the park. It’s a vision of “More Park and More City!”
